PRIVATE EUSTACE JOHN (JACK) BUSHBY 1883 1956 Enlisted at Winnipeg in World War I with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. Was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal and the Cross of St. George, 3rd Class (Russian). As recorded in the London Gazette, the action for which Private John Bushby was commended was for conspicuous gallantry on May 8, 1915, at Hooge, a village near Ypres in Belgium. He assisted wounded men from a trench then in the hands of the enemy, and attempted to rescue a man, who was partially buried in the trench, although while doing so he had to keep at bay two Germans, who were trying to bayonet him. Previously, he had made two journeys to the reserves to bring up ammunition under heavy fire.
